Francisco Veas, Ph.D. HDR is a full research professor on Viral Immuno-Physiopathology at the Health Department of the French Institute of Research for Development (IRD), Director of the Comparative Molecular Immuno-Physiopathology Lab and Deputy-Director of the research unite UMR-Ministry of Defense, Montpellier, France. He received his PhD in Compared Pathology in 1986 from the Montpellier University. Jan 1987 -June 1988 he exerted as post-doctoral fellow on molecular biology of protozoan parasites at the CNRS, Montpellier as a laureate of the Fondation pour la Recherche Médicale. July 1988 – 1990 he exerted as assistant professor in the Parasite’s Population Genetics Lab at the IRD-Montpellier. From 1991-1995 he created and directed the viral experimental research of the IRD AIDS program. 1996 – 2000, he was director of the Retroviral Immunology Lab at the joint research unite U5087 IRD-CNRS, Montpellier. In 2000, he cofounded and CSO the ApoH-Technologies, an IRD spin-off. 2004 he got his “HDR (habilitation de Direction de Recherches, Montpellier University). 2001 – 2009, he directed studies on viral physiopathology (HIV and Dengue) at the IRD “Viral Emerging diseases Research Unite”. He has continuously being promoter and creator of several researches and technological platforms including, sequencing, biosafety labs (BSL2 & BSL3), proteomics, sequencing, animal imagery that have been funded by national and international organizations including CNRS, IRD, Region Languedoc Roussillon. He has been PI of more than 20 Research projects funded by SIDACTION, ANRS, European Commission, CONICYT (Chile), RGJ (Thailand), CNRS, IRD, Region Languedoc Roussillon, France. He was the promoter of the USDEP European Project (2006-2010). Presently he is the coordinator of the European H2020, IF-EBOLA action (2014-17). From 1991, he exert as expert in different evaluation panels, including the NIH-USA (2012-Present) for Center of Excellence and for Tropical Medicine Research Centers), the Commission of Biological Sciences at IRD, the British High Commission and the EU ASIA NET as well as an European Expert (from 2014) for SME’s projects (H2020), the High Council of Public Health from the French Ministry of Health (from 2011). He is evaluation expert of the “Marie Curie” program at the European Commission. He is member of the editorial board of the journal Frontiers in Immunology (from the Nature publishing group) and the medical branch of the InTech publisher-Vienna. He has being Editor and author of two books on Acute Phase Proteins in 2011. His scientific activities, publications and patents include topics related with conserved host responses, pathogen’s structural motifs, innate immunity, viral physiopathology, high sensitive diagnostics, vaccines and adjuvants.
